“Live for something, Be not idle. Look about thee for employ. Sit not down to useless dreaming, Labour is the sweetest joy.
Folded hands are ever weary. Selfish hearts are never gay. Life for thee, it holds something. So be thee active while you may.”
The content of my most recent letterpress print, “Part 2 – Folded Hands“, has a particular resonance for me this month. The poem, recited to me by my great aunt, echoes my belief in continuing to push forward and learn more about the crafts that I am passionate about and has been printed in the run up to my forthcoming trip Letterpress Research trip to America. The trip it self being the culmination of a year spent planning (and a few years spent dreaming) how to further my knowledge of the craft.
My visit to America starts on the 27th September with a 2 week visit to the Hamilton Type Museum, North of Chicago in the town Two Rivers. After this I travel 14 hours South to Tenessee to visit Hatch Show Print for a week in Nashville, before heading East to Knoxville for a final week with Yeehaw Industries.
Along the way I will be attempting to archive and document my findings and experiences both here (on myblog),on my twitter (@deadmethods) and my facebook page.
